“Repent and believe the Gospel.” This invitation, which we find at the beginning of Jesus’ preaching, introduces us to the Lenten season, a time dedicated in a special way to conversion and renewal, to prayer, to fasting and to works of charity. In recalling the experience of the chosen people, we too set out as it were to retrace the journey that Israel made across the desert to the Promised Land. We too will reach our goal; after these weeks of penance, we will experience the joy of Easter. Our eyes, purified by prayer and penance, will be able to behold with greater the face of the living God, to whom we make our own pilgrimage on the paths of earthly life.

Emmaus Café Special Meal-Day: Monday, March 15: .

Mid Week Lenten Liturgies have begun on Wednesdays at 7pm.

The Annual meeting will take place on Tuesday March 16th at 7:30pm. This year’s report will tell our story over the last 10 years with an overhead presentation.

Gossip! “idle talker, newsmonger, groundless rumours.” Gossip is evil and wrong. Gossip is destructive to community. Gossip is not to be tolerated in our faith community. The only time we should be talking about someone else’s business, is when we are talking to THEM. Please learn not to participate in gossip especially when it comes to our church family.

-  Fish and Brews take out on March 20. Contact Dot Bishop (528-4669) or Glenda Efford (786-4117).
-  Children or families that prefer not to join in the dance at the beginning of the liturgy, can meet the others in the Emmaus Café at the end of the dance.
-  We had two little accidents around the fire place on Sunday. Please keep extra eyes on out little ones that they may be safe in our Church House.
- Parish Tax receipts for 2009 are available in Emmaus Café.
- The Bishop will be in the parish on April 25th for Confirmation. Any adult that would like to be received into the Anglican Church at this time, contact Father Gerald.
-  Confirmation will be on April 25, classes have started. Register with Marie Taylor 786-3368.
-  Lead Like Jesus course: takes place on Monday nights at 7:30pm. Facilitated by Alfred Efford. All are welcome.
Week 6:  The Habits of a Servant Leader
-  An ongoing Tuesday night Bible study, to take place in the House for the Church, has begun on Tuesdays beginning at 7:30pm. This ministry is open to all. If interested contact Deacon Janet or Darlene Mahoney.
-   As spring approaches, and spring cleaning begins, remember to donate your “stuff” to the parish flee markets. Contact Mary Jane Norman or Albert Wilson.
- The interdenominational prayer group will be meeting at the Parish of the Resurrection on Tuesday, March 16th at 10 am.  All are invited.
-  The “Simms Trio” will release their CD “Bluegrass Gospel Favorites” on Friday, March 19 from 7 to 9pm in the Emmaus Café. A donation from the sale of the cd’s will be given to the Alzheimer Society.

If you know of any group or organization that would like to have lunch in our café, or an evening function (on a small scale until our multi-purpose rooms are built!), contact Fr.Gerald or Bob Bishop.

When an occasion keeps you away from the gathered church on Sunday, please ensure your regular offering is maintained. This is crucial for the week to week operating of the parish.

Envelopes: for any new comers to our parish family, or for those who may be re-joining us, your responsible financial contribution to the parish is of course very important. Envelops available on table at entrance to Oratory.  For automatic deposit, talk to Winston Bishop.

Remember the ministry of the Parish of the Resurrection when making your wills.

Our HOUSE for the Church
ORATORY (or place of prayer)Because we recognize that the “Church” is the people, we want to avoid calling our building or any part of it the “church.” The place where the church gathers for prayer is called the “Oratory”, which is Latin for “place of prayer.” The Oratory is designed with the principles of equality of celebration, participation verses spectation, and flexibility of liturgical space. The altar table and the ambo (table of the Word) are placed at opposite ends of the oratory to enable liturgical action to take place in the whole of the oratory. Sitting in the “round,” with the use of chairs, also enables the gathered community not only to be drawn into the liturgy, but to face one another and to acknowledge Christ’s presence in the other. True and authentic prayer leads to adoring Christ in the face of one another.

Emmaus Café: The “gathering” area is called the “Emmaus Room” to reflect the Gospel resurrection story of the road to Emmaus – it was in the context of hospitality (over a meal) that the two disciples recognized the Risen Jesus. Our Emmaus Room is a  hospitality room built around a fireplace. We envision this room in a café concept open to our people and to the region (regardless of denomination or social status) serving lunch and refreshments. Our vision is to have a facility that offers the opportunity for the community to gather, a place where we can grow in friendship and love.
